Travelling With Kids in the Car

Travelling With Kids in the Car

Pack enough snacks, sandwiches and water to last the entire trip. It is amazing how the time flies when children are eating.

Pack a roll of toilet paper or enough wipes just in case a side of the road stop is necessary.

Bring nappy bags just in case you find out if your child/ren get car sickness.

Pack a bag of your child’s favourite toys. Preferably not hard objects just in case they throw them (speaking from experience here).

Baby Car Organisesr are great so you don’t have to keep reaching behind you to get things. Like this one or this one.

Portable DVD player is essential (remembering spare batteries). Multiple units if there is more than one child or you can get the ones with multiple screens.

Portable game consoles for older children.

Selection of your child’s favourite music to sign along too. Either on the car’s audio system or an individual audio system with headphones.

Arrange the car trip around the child’s nap time.

Break up the car travel in a day. Don’t try to do a 10 hour stint with child/ren in the car.

Everyone’s favourite driving game – Eye Spy with my little eye, something beginning with…

Apply sun-cream to your children’s faces, arms & legs. Sunshades on the windows if you have them.

And most of all – start the day happy and open minded because you don’t know what that car trip will finish up like when you have kids in the car.

Tips For Traveling With Young Kids

Tips For Traveling With Young Kids

Are you taking a vacation with a baby or toddler and worried that it will be a hassle? Well, you’re right to worry but with a few tips and suggestions, your family vacation will be enjoyable for you and your young ones.

If you’re planning on traveling by yourself with your child then consider asking for help from a friend or family member. The added cost of their company will more than pay for itself with the assistance that they’ll provide.

If you’ll be traveling by car then try not to drive extended distances without stops. Plan rest stops about every two hours and consider staying the night at a midway point to give you and your baby a rest from the road.

Travel by plane can also take its toll on adults and kids. Get your seats booked in advance and if possible, get a bulkhead seat. These seats have a wall in front of them and offer a bit of room for your child to move around. Airlines generally will let you pre-board with infants so you can get settled in your seats before the other passengers board. If air travel is more than a few hours then consider stopping off at a midway point along the way. Not only will it give you and your family a rest but you can take a day or two to discover an interesting destination.

If you’re traveling with a young baby then make sure you bring plenty of the diaper changing essentials and bottles of formula or baby food. Regardless of age, pack things to keep children busy. If they’re young, bring rattles and teething rings. If they’re older then bring a new toy since old ones won’t keep them occupied for too long. Consider purchasing a portable DVD player so they can be kept busy watching their favorite program or cartoon. There are also children’s books that are accompanied by CD’s so your child can listen and read at the same time; not only will it keep them busy but it will also be educational. Coloring books sound like a good idea but coloring can be too much of a temptation to draw on tray tables and seats.

Bring snacks since children often get hungry and thirsty and they tend to be finicky eaters. Don’t pack messy snacks and try to find food with low sugar. Pack lots of baby wipes; they come in handy for cleaning up messy faces and small spills.

Holidays with babies and toddlers don’t have to be nightmares. With some preparation, planning some rests along the way and keeping them busy, you and your family can have an enjoyable vacation.

Traveling With Family And Kids

Traveling With Family And Kids

It is necessary that you know about various things and keep them in your mind while vacationing with your child. This would ensure that not only you but also the entire family has an enjoyable trip. For example, if the baby is in diapers then you need ample supply of diapers and baby wipes. Safe drinking water for drinking and rinsing out cups is a must. Always take pillows and blankets so that the child is comfortable during the journey.

For children who are old enough, you could carry coloring books, games, and toys which are hassle free and can be played without disturbing others. Interesting books and puzzles for children come in handy to keep them busy. The most important tip of all, of course would be setting up a realistic driving schedule for the day. Most babies and children find it difficult to handle long hours confined in a particular place. Driving more than eight hours per day could affect your health. Try halting every two hours to distress your self.

A mother of two, Jill enjoyed traveling with her children even when they were very small. The entire family enjoyed trips to the park, the lake, beaches and to Disneyland as well. Since most parents enjoy having their children around on a holiday, Jill recommends thoughtful planning for making the trip more fun. That way both children and their parents could have fun.

These days many rest stops have baby changing stations in both men’s and women’s rest rooms. As a result both the parents can help in changing the child and share the child work.

Sally, a friend and neighbor of Jill’s, has also traveled with small children. She suggests, that it is necessary to take frequent breaks so that children do not get bored and irritable. Allowing them to munch on snacks they like fruits or crackers is a sure good way to keep them busy and out of trouble.

You should be careful while traveling with infants. Ask your friends for practical tips on managing small children through out the trip. You could also gather information from what they did on their vacations with kids. Hearing about their experiences would give you ideas and ample scope of learning what to avoid. You could always ask your parents for baby advice as well as consult the local public library for books and magazines related to parenting

Traveling along with your child or other youngsters could make your trip really enjoyable if you can handle it well and make it a happy occasion for everyone involved. Take along a camera or video camcorder so that you can keep a record of the happy memories of the trip for viewing later. Your happy memories and camera pictures could be enjoyed by the kids when they grow up too. Do not forsake the joys of being with your children. Just plan ahead for a fantastic holidays with babies and the entire family together.

Kids Toys For Travel

The school summer holidays are fast approaching. Six long weeks of keeping the kids amused.

Are you dreading those long drives to the coast etc? And the kids always shout “I’m bored” or “Are we there yet?” Well fear not, the solution is simple, why not stack up on travel games! They’re big enough to keep the kids quiet, yet small enough to fit in the tiniest space, even a handbag. Also suitable for boat, train and plane travel.

There are old favorites like, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Chess, Backgammon, Checkers and Solitaire. No need to worry about pieces going missing as they are magnetic, so they don’t fall off the board and onto the floor or down the side of seats. They pack away easily so there’s no fuss. You can buy as a complete set or individually.

Activity books are also great when traveling. Some come as an activity pack, that includes crayons and their own plastic wallet, these have coloring in, puzzles and games. Ideal for the younger ones.

Dice even playing cards, can be put into a pocket they can be used anywhere even on the floor.

Other travel games such as, Monopoly, Scrabble, Othello, Connect 4, Battleships, Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit are smaller versions of the original board game. These don’t have magnetic pieces. They can be stored in car door pockets, or in children’s backpacks, to be played on planes, trains and boats, as well as in the car.

Of course you don’t have to pay for keeping the kids quiet, you could always make up games of your own, such as Geography, you take it in turns, starting from the letter A then B and so on, you can use countries, towns, street names, and villages. Or you could use the last letter of the previous word for the next one, either of these are great fun when you get to the letter Y, as it gets harder. Or you could take paper and pen and make your own crosswords. There’s also I Spy.

Travel games can be bought at toyshops, online, even newsagents and supermarkets have started stocking them. The magnetic ones are – each, and the miniature ones range from to around . The complete sets vary from stockist to stockist.

These games are not expensive, but well worth investing in, just to keep everyone happy and relaxed. Have a great summer!

City Travel With Kids

City Travel With Kids

When friends and family call me crazy for traveling with my toddler and preschooler to cities like Chicago, New York, and Toronto, I just laugh. My kids have munched on picnic treats while watching the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Millennium Park, clambered up the monkey bars in the shadow of the arch in Washington Square Park and peered through the glass floor on the observation deck of the CN tower. Though it wasn’t always easy navigating the city streets with two little ones in tow, it was well worth the trouble. I had a fantastic time and I could tell from the way they talked about the trips for months afterward that my kids had a great time too.
